Top 10 New Concept Cars
Spacer Image
Every year, the automotive industry brings us many new and exciting concept cars and 2010 is no different. There are many different concept cars that are stretching what we thought was possible and pushing the technology to the next level.

We are really excited about the new concepts from many of the top auto makers.  There are a few huge auto shows that will showcase these new designs and new features that in the past many of us have only dreamed about.

The Push To Go Green

There are many new changes coming to the concept cars this year.  As the consumer becomes more concerned with fuel costs and the environment, the auto industry has responded.  There are many new electric cars that will be hitting the marketplace very soon, and one of the first all electric cars is being released this year too.  There is a huge amount of money going into the development of these new green cars, but for a good reason.  As the government continues to tighten down emissions regulations and as the cost of gas goes up, making the perfect green car is the goal of many of the top auto makers.  This is also a surefire way to appease sides, consumer, and regulatory departments.

This year’s new concept cars will not only be some of the most fuel efficient, but there will also be some releases on the opposite side of the spectrum.  Americans still love muscle cars and anything that goes fast.  So, there are some new hotrods of the future that will be part of the lineup too.  It seems that about the only thing that will be left out are the cars in the middle, either “really fuel efficient” or “total gas guzzlers” seems to be the theme this year.

Top 10 Concept Cars For 2010

  1. Stackable Robot Car – This is nothing close to a normal car, and since it is so unique, it has found its way into our top ten list.  This mini car, designed by an MIT group named “Smart Cities,” has wheels that can rotate up to 360 degrees while in motion.  The concept of these cars is not only to save gas, but also to save space; this car can fold up into an unbelievably small footprint.  They envision these being used in any populous city as another option to public transportation.

The robot car runs off an electric engine and electric suspension.  The car is said to be so safe that it does not even need seatbelts, as the seats will move to contain the driver and keep them out of harm’s way.  Another amazing thing about this really cool concept car is that the electric motors are housed inside the wheel.  This makes for a whole new outlook on how an electric car may be powered and does away with problematic mechanical parts like the driveshaft you would find in any other standard vehicle.  Once all the preliminary planning is done, the plans will be sent to GM® to produce the real prototype.

  2. VW EcoRacer  - This new prototype from Volkswagon® looks like no other car you have seen.  The car has t-tops that flip up and literally give this new concept car wings!  This is VW’s first attempt at a real roadster style vehicle and is supposed to be able to reach 100 mph in about 6 seconds.  The top speed is said to be about a whopping 142 mph.  This car is created using carbon-fiber for the body to reduce weight and is really something to see.

  3. Peugeot 907 GT – You may not be familiar with this company, but they have been around for many years.  Another car taking advantage of the carbon-fiber body shell design, and this one has got some brute force to go along with it.  With a 500 bhp V12 engine, this one will put you back in your seat with problems!

  4. Scion Fuse - Toyota® has put together a sweet looking coupe with their new release under the Scion® trade name.  Coming stock with 10 and half inch monitors and offering wi-fi connectivity, they are obviously planning for the tech crowd to fall in love with this one.

  5. BMW Mille Miglia – The only way to describe the grill and simply breathtaking look of this new concept car is to say it looks like a Rolls Royce from the future!  You simply have to find some pictures of this one.  We promise you will think that it was taken right out of a movie.

  6. Camero Concept – The concept car from Chevrolet® holds on to the old standards that Camero lovers have held on to through the years like high end handling, suspension, and of course power.  The new design gives this car hips at the back end and gives it a very menacing look, which we like!

  7. Nissan Pivo – Another great concept for what green cars could be.  The Pivo is a very small car, about the size of a Mini Cooper™ or actually a little smaller.  This one is only a two passenger car, but comes equipped with the world’s first spinning cockpit and has some cameras mounted outside the cabin to send live feeds to driver.

  8. Silverado Heavy Duty – This new truck is already getting ready for production, and the best word to describe it is bold.  When you see this truck, you can almost see the testosterone dripping off it.  If there is one thing that Chevy is known for, it is their trucks.  One look at this new model, and you can tell that this is not going to change any time soon.

  9. Kia Ray – This is one of the new concept cars that will make you do a double take.  It has a design that may remind you of a Sony Walkman®, at least that is how some have described the slick looking car with multi-tone colors making it stand out from all others.

  10. Honda FC Sport – Honda has been one of the front runners in automobile technology for some time, and their new concept car, the FC Sport is showing that they are still pushing the envelope of what cars can be.  Running on a hydrogen fuel cell, this three seat car has style and swagger that no other eco-friendly model out there has.

What The Future Holds

There is no question that we are all in for some big changes when it comes to what new cars are going to be available in the next few years.  Looking at some of the top concept cars of 2010 only re-enforces how auto makers are really pushing to keep the consumer happy and excited about what they will come up with next.  Have fun dreaming about these hot new concepts and waiting for the day they actually are available.
